Privacy Policy

WCA Competitions Tracker Chrome Extension — Last updated: June 24, 2026

This policy explains what data the WCA Competitions Tracker extension collects, how it is used, and what choices you have. We take your privacy seriously and collect only what is necessary to improve the extension.

1. What We Collect

Anonymous Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand how the extension is used so we can fix bugs and improve features. Specifically, we record:

• A randomly generated identifier (UUID) stored locally on your device. This ID is not linked to any personal account or identity.
• The extension version.
• User interaction events such as: opening the extension, clicking on competitions, applying filters, enabling notifications, changing themes, using search, and toggling the side panel.
• Country codes you add or remove (e.g., "US", "IN") — never full addresses or GPS coordinates.
• Whether you have location detection enabled or disabled.

We do not collect your name, email, browsing history, IP address (beyond what PostHog receives as part of a standard HTTPS request), or any personally identifiable information.

Location-Based Country Detection (BigDataCloud)

If you click "Use My Location", your browser's GPS coordinates are sent to BigDataCloud to detect which country you are in. Only the resulting country name is stored and used by the extension. Your coordinates are not stored by us. BigDataCloud's own privacy policy governs how they handle this request.

Using location detection is entirely optional. You can manually select countries without granting location access.

2. How We Use This Data

• To understand which features are used most and least.
• To diagnose bugs and crashes.
• To prioritise future improvements.

We do not sell, rent, or share this data with any third parties beyond PostHog (our analytics processor).

3. Third-Party Services

• PostHog — analytics. Data is processed on PostHog's US servers. PostHog Privacy Policy
• BigDataCloud — reverse geocoding (optional, only when you use location detection). BigDataCloud Privacy Policy
• WCA API (worldcubeassociation.org) — all competition data is fetched from the official WCA API. No personal data is sent.

4. Data Storage

The random analytics ID and your selected countries, preferences, and notification settings are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage.local API. This data never leaves your device except as described above.

5. Your Choices

• You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your browser settings.
• You can disable notifications at any time from within the extension.
• Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
